FLY CGI & Contour Airlines Service: Frequently Asked Questions

Here you’ll find answers to common questions about the renewed Essential Air Service (EAS) contract with Contour Airlines and the exciting new travel options available from the City of Cape Girardeau Regional Airport (FLY CGI).

GENERAL SERVICE & AIRLINE INFORMATION

Which airline provides service from the City of Cape Girardeau Regional Airport?

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the service contract to Contour Airlines. We are excited to continue our successful partnership with Contour, which has already led to a 25% increase in passenger growth.

Why was Contour Airlines chosen instead of another carrier like American Airlines?

The DOT’s selection prioritized a cost-effective and sustainable service model for our community. Contour’s proposal was more than $3.4 million less than American’s bid for the two-year term. This allows us to offer expanded service and more destinations while being fiscally responsible. This is a common practice, and other regional airports have recently seen similar decisions that prioritize cost.

What kind of aircraft does Contour fly?

Contour Airlines operates a modern fleet of 30-seat CRJ-200 and Embraer ERJ-135 regional jets, offering a comfortable and efficient travel experience.

DESTINATIONS & FLIGHT SCHEDULES

What destinations can I fly to from Cape Girardeau (CGI)?

Contour Airlines provides nonstop flights to Chicago (ORD), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), and seasonal direct flights to Orlando, Florida (SFB) beginning December 2026. For the full schedule of departing and returning flights, please visit  Flight Schedules.

What happened to the flights to Nashville (BNA)?

The new EAS contract shifts our hub focus from only Chicago to Chicago (ORD) and Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW). This change provides our travelers with access to two larger hubs, creating more one-stop connection opportunities across the country and around the world. FLY CGI stopped service to Nashville (BNA) in September 2024 when the hub location changed to Chicago (ORD).

What does the flight schedule look like?

COMMUNITY IMPACT & BENEFITS

How does this new agreement benefit the Cape Girardeau region?

This agreement makes FLY CGI a premier travel gateway for Southeast Missouri. Key benefits include:

  • Unmatched Connectivity: We are now the only airport in the area offering westbound hub service (to DFW) and the only regional EAS airport connecting to two major hubs.
  • More Travel Options: With three destinations, we offer the broadest array of travel choices in the region.
  • Economic Growth: Enhanced air service makes our region more attractive for business investment and tourism, which boosts the local economy and enhances the quality of life for all residents.

What is the significance of "non-subsidized" flights?

Non-subsidized flights are offered at Contour’s own financial risk, outside of the government-subsidized EAS program. This is a significant vote of confidence in the strength of our local market and positions FLY CGI as one of only a few EAS airports in the country with service to three or more destinations.

How can I book a flight from the City of Cape Girardeau Regional Airport?

Booking a flight is easy! Visit Contour’s booking site for ticket purchases, find schedules, check prices, and book tickets. Reservations for all Contour Airlines flights are available through Contour’s website. Plus, travelers can seamlessly book connecting flights through Contour’s interline agreements with American Airlines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and JetBlue.

Did the City Council vote in favor of the American Airlines proposal?

The City Council did formally recommend the American Airline’s proposal to the Department of Transportation (DOT) based on community input and feedback. However, the final decision on Essential Air Service contracts always rests with the DOT, and they selected Contour Airlines based on their proposal’s cost-effectiveness and expanded options for our region. The City of Cape Girardeau works hard to be transparent throughout this complicated the process and remains committed to securing the best possible air service for local residents.

Will there be future changes to available destinations or airlines?

Air service contracts are re-evaluated regularly based on market conditions, traveler demand, and federal guidelines. The City of Cape Girardeau leadership continually advocates for expanded and enhanced air service and will keep the public informed about any future developments or changes to flight options.

Can I earn or use frequent flyer miles?

Contour Airlines is not currently a member of a major airline frequent flyer program. However, flights from Cape Girardeau connect to major American Airlines hubs, making it easy to continue your journey as part of American’s network.

How are flight schedules determined?

Schedules are developed based on passenger demand, connections at major hubs, and regulations under the Essential Air Service program. The City of Cape Girardeau works closely with Contour Airlines and the DOT to design schedules that best support the needs of local travelers.
